President’s Chief of Staff Victor Baloha believes the government’s decision to dismiss Valentyna Semeniuk from post of the State Property Fund chief is a serious legal and political precedent, created by the government of Yulia Tymoshenko.

According to the President`s press-office, V.Baloha claimed that the government’s aspiration to solve many serious problems, connected with the SPFU activities, is quite reasonable and understandable, though it must not generate decisions that are contrary to the Constitution.

“The Cabinet of Ministers plans on this year’s privatization are directly connected with the repayment of compensation on the depreciated Soviet-era deposits. Evidently, the government kicked off the privatization speeding up, which today touched the SPFU leadership. The matter does not concern personalities: the removal of V.Semeniuk is absolutely contrary to the Constitution”, he stressed.

V.Baloha emphasized that in line with the Constitution, the State Property Fund chief is appointed and dismissed by the Verkhovna Rada on the basis of a Prime Minister’s submission. Considering the current blocking the parliament, this decision could not have been adopted, regardless whether there was a Prime Minister’s submission or not.
