Today several oil stains each around 100 square meters by diameter were torn off “Volgoneft-139” Russian tanker and are blown towards the coast of the Kerch city.
UNIAN was told about this at the Emergency Ministry’s Crimean Directorate.
According to the information of Crimean rescuers, to prevent penetration of oil products at the territory of Kerch, special ships with sorbate and slick bars are working in the sea.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the oil spilled Sunday when a tanker traveling through the Kerch Strait at the northern end of the Black Sea went down in a storm, spilling more than 1,000 tons of fuel oil. The Kerch Strait runs between Russia and Ukraine`s Crimean Peninsula and connects to the Azov Sea. The storms produced hurricane-force winds and massive waves and caused at least four other ships to sink and many more to run aground.
