Former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski believes the trial of former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko complicates negotiations between Ukraine and the European Union on political association, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"I think that everything happening in Ukraine that relates to Mrs. Tymoshenko complicates the process. There is no other answer. Politically this makes all conversations very difficult," Aleksander Kwasniewski said on the First National Channel.

The former Polish president recalled that Batkivshchyna and its leader, Yulia Tymoshenko, along with leaders of many European countries, are part of the political family of the European People’s Party. "Most European leaders and governments are associated with the group of conservative Christian parties in the European Parliament and the Batkivshchyna Party and Yulia Tymoshenko are part of this political family. Many of our political colleagues expect an explanation of this provision and, of course, will watch everything that is happening and will happen in Ukraine. Everything taking place between Ukraine and the European Union – this moment and this trial, and everything related to Yulia Tymoshenko affects, matters and complicates the process," he believes.

Aleksander Kwasniewski stressed that European countries can not interfere in the judicial process. "Of course, we can’t influence the trial of an independent court. This is also a European and global standard, but, of course, there needs to be frank talk about what is happening because everything that has happened in recent weeks and months in Ukraine doesn’t help this process politically. I say this seriously and openly," he added.
