Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko believes the Ukrainian economy will lose its competitiveness on world markets if the country joins the Customs Union with Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan, according to Official website of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"Ukraine will completely destroy its cooperation with the world; it will lose the opportunity to be competitive on global markets and be a participant on world and European markets. So I find it strange that this is even an issue today," Yulia Tymoshenko told journalists after leaving the Prosecutor General’s Office today.

Yulia Tymoshenko believes the capacity of Customs Union markets is far less than European markets. "The European Union is a 16 trillion euro market. What Yanukovych is proposing today – the Customs Union – is a little over 1 trillion dollars. These are two disparate things," she said.

"If Ukraine wants to return to the past and remove itself as a participant and player in European markets, then we should do as Yanukovych proposes, but if we want to really develop our economy, create jobs and improve social standards then our place is in the free trade zone with the EU," Yulia Tymoshenko stressed.
