On March 25-31 President Viktor Yanukovych will make state visits to a number of South-East Asian countries: the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Republic of Singapore and the State of Brunei Darussalam, Deputy Chief of Staff Andrii Goncharuk has informed, according to the Press office of President Viktor Yanukovych.
The purpose of the President’s South-East Asian tour, he said, is promoting Ukraine’s potential in the region and negotiating concrete initiatives to develop cooperation and implement mutually beneficial projects.
During the state visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (March 25-27, 2011), which is one of Ukraine’s key partners in Southeast Asia, President Yanukovych plans to discuss with the country’s leadership the question of further development and intensification of political dialogue at the highest level and new approaches to large-scale cooperation, especially in the economic sphere.
The visit’s program, inter alia, foresees the President of Ukraine speaking at a Ukrainian-Vietnamese Business Forum, which will be attended by leading representatives of business circles of both countries. Besides, eight important Ukrainian-Vietnamese agreements are to be signed, aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.
While visiting the Republic of Singapore (March 28-29, 2011), President Yanukovych will discuss with its leadership the priority areas of cooperation and concrete bilateral projects, in the areas of trade, economic, military-technical and scientific cooperation.
Andrii Goncharuk said that the Ukrainian side is looking forward to reaching an agreement to attract Singaporean technology and investment, including in the context of preparation for EURO 2012.
In order to interest Singaporean investors to launch joint projects in our country, the President of Ukraine will take part in a business forum and meet with leading representatives of business circles of Singapore.
The state visit of President Yanukovych in the State of Brunei Darussalam (March 30-31, 2011) aims to restore the positive dynamics of political contacts at the highest level and bilateral relations, they had acquired through the exchange of visits of Heads of the two states back in 2004.
Ukraine and Brunei have great potential for cooperation in economic, investment and military-technical areas.
Brunei is a potentially serious investor, said Andrii Goncharuk, and Ukraine hopes to interest businessmen of Brunei in implementing joint infrastructure development projects.
In the framework of the visit, Ukraine plans to expand the legal base of bilateral relations, particularly by signing a joint statement of the two countries’ leaders, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in defense and an Agreement on visa-free travel of citizens.
