Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko believes that Ukraine can return to a democratic path of development only with an active civil society and support from the international community, according to the Official website of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"In order for our country to return to a democratic path of development, we need an active civil society and support from the international community. The party which I lead and I will make every effort to defend democratic values in Ukraine," Yulia Tymoshenko said during a meeting today with OSCE Chairman-in-Office and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Azubalis.

In turn, Audronius Azubalis stressed that government interference in the activities of the opposition is unacceptable. "Human rights, freedom of speech and political pluralism are central to a democratic society. The OSCE and I, as a journalist by profession, are concerned by the information regarding the situation in these spheres in Ukraine. Of particular concern is the government’s obstruction of the activities of the opposition. This is unacceptable," he said.

Yulia Tymoshenko thanked Audronius Azubalis for supporting democracy and stressed that the top priorities for her political party, while in government and opposition, remain strengthening democracy and human rights.
