Viktor Yanukovych sure that there are no obstacles to signing free trade agreement between Syria and Ukraine, he said at today’s press conference following the Ukrainian-Syrian negotiations in Kyiv, according to the Press office of President Viktor Yanukovych.

The President noted that in January-February 2011 the delegations of Ukraine and Syria will meet to prepare the necessary documents. "We see no obstacles to that," he said.

"Our common desire with the President of Syria is to work out effective mechanisms of cooperation and establish an appropriate interstate legal framework. This is our goal and we will achieve it soon," the Ukrainian President added.

Viktor Yanukovych is confident that the Ukrainian-Syrian cooperation has great potential "in terms of both the bilateral cooperation in many areas, and cooperation with third countries.” He said the enlargement of cooperation will allow increasing the trade turnover between Ukraine and Syria significantly.

"The current trade turnover indicates that our capabilities are not fully used. So we decided to accelerate this process.

I am grateful to the President of Syria for a quick response to my invitation to visit Ukraine and begin the process of intensification of our bilateral relations," Viktor Yanukovych said.

In turn, the President of Syria stressed that the establishment of FTA requires revision of the existing documents. "Signing such an important agreement requires additional coordination and elaboration.

There is a desire, there is will, and there are no disagreements or problems. Perhaps, only the bureaucratic moments remain... During today’s talks we have pointed out that we need to complete the few questions related to solving the current issues to sign this agreement," the President of Syria said.
