Sheva scores after Chelsea exit


There was a strong Premier League influence to the weekend`s internationals with goalscorers coming from Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Tottenham, Aston Villa as well as former Chelsea flop Andriy Shevchenko, according to Mail Online.

Shevchenko scored an injury-time penalty for Ukraine to beat Belarus 1-0 in World Cup qualifying on Saturday.

Shevchenko converted the spot kick in the third minute of injury time after Aleksandr Kulchiya had handled the ball in the box.

Croatia warmed up for Wednesday`s World Cup qualifier against England by beating Kazakhstan 3-0 in Zagreb.

Niko Kovac put the hosts ahead after 13 minutes and Tottenham new boy Luka Modric doubled the advantage in the 36th minute.

Mladen Petric completed the scoring after 79 minutes.

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel and Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik scored second-half goals to lead Slovakia to a 2-1 win over Northern Ireland.

Skrtel`s Anfield team-mate Yossi Benayoun found the net late for Israel in their 2-2 draw against Switzerland.

Middlesbrough striker Tuncay Sanli and Semih Senturk scored second-half goals to give Turkey a 2-0 win in Armenia.

Bulgaria salvaged a 2-2 draw against Montenegro on Saturday in a World Cup qualifier after substitute Blagoi Georgiev scored with an injury-time free kick.

Aston Villa midfielder Stilian Petrov had earlier notched for the Bulgarians.
