Yushchenko delivers ultimatum to Tymoshenko

President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko notes that the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko has to voice its position on Georgia and cancel anti-constitutional laws if they want to resume the democratic coalition.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, he claimed this in an interview with journalists today.

Victor Yushchenko stressed there are enough democratic means in Ukraine to solve this internal conflict in a peaceful way. According to him, Ukraine has shown many times that it may find a democratic answer to political conflicts without weapon. Victor Yushchenko stressed that a dialog is necessary. “We have enough of national forces to formulate an answer to this crisis”, he said.

The Head of State noted that BYuT members are making many statements saying they would like to return to the democratic coalition. “Many declarations, statements, including today, a part of them as if pursuing the goal to return to the Coalition of Democratic Forces, out of which they de-facto formed another coalition with Communists and the Party of Regions several days ago”, Victor Yushchenko said.

He stressed that it was a colossal blow on democratic relations inside the country. “But I’m convinced that there is an answer to this question as well: if somebody really wants to return to the state before September 2 of the current year, in my opinion, they should understand and undertake a number of absolutely clear moves”, the President said.

First of all, according to him, they should determine a clear position concerning the Georgian-Russian conflict, moreover, it should base upon the territorial integrity of Georgia, recognition of the peaceful cease-fire plan, and include a concern about the use of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, which is situated at the Ukrainian territory, in military operations in other countries. “It is necessary for the factions return to the dialog”, the President said.

Besides, according to him, it is necessary to cancel the anti-Constitutional decisions adopted by parliament since September 2. In particular, they should cancel the Law on Cabinet of Ministers, on the Prosecutor’s General Office, on SBU, “because it’s clear why these institutions were necessary in this scenario – to destroy the Ukrainian democracy, and this is extremely serious”, Victor Yushchenko claimed.

In the opinion of the President, if these decisions are canceled, and if BYuT occupies a clear position on Georgia, they will begin negotiations.
