Senior lieutenant Ihor Kinal, 25, Ukrainian member of the international force in Kosovo, was seriously wounded in clashes in the north with Serb protesters on March 17 and died in hospital.

UNIAN was told about that at the Interior Ministry’s press-service department.

According to more detailed information, the peacemaker died at 10.00 p.m. on March 17, after a surgery. I.Kinal, was a native of the Ternopil Oblast in the west of Ukraine.

On the whole, 20 Ukrainian peacemakers were wounded in Kosovo on March 17. All of them are undergoing medical treatment in hospitals at present.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on Monday Serb demonstrators in Mitrovica in Kosovo fired on United Nations and NATO peacekeepers. The incidents occurred after UN police ended the occupation by Serbs of a court building in the city. 20 Ukrainian and 22 Polish peacekeepers were injured.

The Serbs are protesting against the independence of Kosovo, formerly a province of Serbia. Ukraine contributed 155 police and 182 military personnel to the peacekeeping force in Kosovo.
