Andriy Shevchenko insists he can still prove he is a great striker at Chelsea despite showing no sign of returning from his second back injury of the season, according to Daily Mail.

The Ukrainian has been out since Boxing day with a problem similar to the one which ruled him out at the start of the campaign and manager Avram Grant has no idea when he will return.

The Chelsea boss said: "I don`t know how far away Sheva is. His injury was a surprise and it has taken longer than we thought."

But 31-year-old Shevchenko said: "I was doing well, I`d scored six goals in 10 matches and then my back blocked. Before being judged I`d like to rediscover my consistency."

Shevchenko has been ruled out of tonight`s Carling Cup semi-final, second-leg at Everton but Shaun Wright-Phillips could return.

The ankle injury the winger sustained last weekend at Birmingham is not as bad as first feared and he has travelled to Merseyside.
