The offenders, accused on the Gongadze case, namely Mykola Protasov, Valeriy Kostenko, and Oleksander Popovych, have been charged with causing significant damage to the image of Ukraine and the country’s law-enforcement agencies.
UNIAN was told about this by Myroslava Gongadze’s lawyer Valentyna Telychenko.
According to her, the respective solicitation of prosecutor’s office representatives was allowed today by the board of judges of the Kyiv Appeal Court.
V.Telychenko specified, the prosecutor’s office representatives based their charges upon part 1, article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (1960 year edition; misuse of office, which caused a significant damage to the state or public interests).
At the same time, the lawyer disclosed that the regular trial on Gongadze trial is fixed for 10.30 a.m. on 24 January. During this period, the convicts and their lawyers will study the new accusation. Besides, the court will also have to inform Lessia Gongadze, the killed journalist’s mother, about the changes in the legal proceedings.
