“Security of Journalists in Ukraine” seminar will be held in the Cinema House (6 Saksahanskoho Str.) in Kyiv on 14 December.

According to the information of the Independent Media Trade Union, the measure is supported by the International Federation of Journalists, the Independent Media Trade Union of Ukraine and the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine.

The aim of the seminar is to work out an algorithm of Ukrainian journalist’s activities in an emergency situation.

IFJ projects chief Oliver Money-Kyrle, coordinator of the project on journalist security in Ukraine Oksana Romaniuk, IMTU chairman Serhiy Goos, NUJU chief Ihor Lubchenko, president of the Ukrainian Association of Media-Lawyers Tetiana Kotiuzhynska, representatives of Ukrainian and foreign journalist organizations, security experts, psychologists, lawyers, representatives of power bodies will take part in the seminar.

The seminar will probe into situations, dangerous for Ukrainian journalists, and activities of journalists at different levels of defense – from physical to legal. The foreign, as well as Ukrainian experience of journalist security will be worked out.

Trade unions and other journalist organizations will tell about help they may render to journalists in trouble.

Seminar participants will receive “Handbook on Security for Ukrainian Journalists”, which was worked out with the assistance of IFJ, IMTU, and NUJU.

The seminar will be accompanied by an exhibition of pictures of journalists rights violations, presented by the UNIAN photo-service. UNIAN news agency is an informational sponsor of the project.
