U.S. Ambassador to present grants for cultural preservation in Ukraine

On September 25, the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine William B. Taylor participated in a signing ceremony for two Ukrainian Cultural Preservation grants, at 4:00 pm at the State Academy of Senior Specialists of Culture and Arts, Conference Hall, 21 Sichnevoho Povstannia, Building 15, 2nd floor, according to the US Embassy to Ukraine.

The first grant is through the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation, and goes to the Lviv History Museum, for the digitization, conservation, and restoration of the 12th century manuscript Khrystynopilsky Apostol. The 291 page parchment manuscript is handwritten in ancient Slavic by one scribe and is devoted to a description of the actions and messages of the apostles. Marginalia on the manuscript dating to the 12th – 14th centuries provides first-hand information of the history of that time. The manuscript was written in one of the monasteries of Ukraine and is considered to be of international historical value.

The second grant is provided through the U.S. Embassy and goes to the Ethnographic Museum of Crimea in Simferopol for the creation of a secure exhibit space in order to display an existing collection of national costumes, jewelry, and carpets.
