Ukraine hosts NATO exerciseA ten-day NATO command post exercise involving 45 participants from Allied and Partner countries has been taking place in Sevastopol, Ukraine, according to the NATO Ukrainian Office. The aim was to practise tactical planning for a crisis-response operation. Exercise Cooperative Marlin 2007 involved personnel from six NATO member states (Canada, Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania and Turkey), five Partner countries (Albania, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Georgia and Ukraine), one Mediterranean Dialogue country (Israel) and two countries participating in the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (Qatar and the United Arab Emirates). The exercise, 11 to 20 September, was based on a fictitious crisis-response scenario. After learning about standard NATO procedures, participants were given an opportunity to put theory into practice. Such exercises contribute to enhancing mutual understanding and interoperability among participating countries. comments | print version
