The decree of President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko on dismissing Volodymyr Ivashchenko from the post of the Constitutional Court judge does not correspond to agreements on settling the political crisis, which were achieved between the Prime Minister and the President on Friday, 4 May.

UNIAN was told about this at a press-service of the Cabinet of Ministers, referring to Prime Minister of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych.

“This decree not only does not correspond to our agreement with the President on a “zero variant” of solving the crisis and coming back to the legal field, but also, once again, confirms that the President unilaterally ignores the agreements that we achieved”, Victor Yanukovych believes.

According to him, the President’s decrees on dissolving the parliament, which blocked the work of the legislative branch of power, the undisguised pressure upon Constitutional Court judges, and, finally, dismissals of the CC judges – all these caused an acute political crisis. According to Victor Yanukovych, these actions of the President violated the basic principles of democracy, and, in particular, the main one – the supremacy of law.

“Sacking another CC judge V.Ivashchenko is another, very dangerous, step towards blocking the work of the Constitutional Court and the judicial branch of power. This once again breaks our agreements with the President”, Victor Yanukovych stressed.

At the same time, Victor Yanukovych addressed the leadership of Ukraine’s neighbor countries, the European Union, and Russia, with a request to mediate in the negotiations on resolving the political crisis.
