The United States has a deep and abiding interest in your oil, natural gas, and in choking Russia. That`s the meaning of Cheney`s words. If there is a confrontation with Russia, which will happen for sure since Russia is not crazy to accept NATO on its borders, America has nothing to lose-it will happen on Ukraine`s soil, just like it happened on Georgia`s soil. Henry Kissinger at least had the honesty to state "America does not have friends. America has interests".

The West : It`s US versus Them
Ukraine should remain independent from the US who continues to use the would `The West` as a way of pushing its political agenda. It never ceases to amuse that it is always the US claiming to be `The West`. Yes Ukraine should adopt European Standards and Yes it should have a close relationship with Europe BUT it must also maintain a close relationship with all its neighbours including Russia. The US should but out and let he EU take the lead when promoting Western values.
