A change in ownership normally triggers a review and possible cancellation of exploration licences, Much of it depends on the terms of the license granted. The proposed purchase of P&O triggered a congressional review by the United States who also feared security issues. The diversification of interests and performance delivery requirements are common issues for concern as many companies with competing interest are known to shuffle competition and hamper development of what could be competing operations to their other interest. How often do you hear of pharmaceutical companies buying up patents rights of a drug only to prevent the drug from going to market. Due process and rule of law should decide who is in the right. The US Ambassador should think carefully before they undermine Ukraine`s National Security Interest. |
