Ukraine energy scheme backers revealed - FT

Gene  : Because of Renat, I now understand why Yush wants to keep the agreement
While I question almost all the deals, previously set up by the Yanu govt, I now understand why Yush is fighting Yulia on this issue. He is protecting Renat, with whom he seems to have found a political ally. I`ve read some of the terms of this agreement and tend to agree that 70 percent is too much for Ukraine to give up. While Vanco should be protected for their investments costs and a fair profit, I think Yanu gave up far too much that will probably benefit Renat and the Russian businessman more than Vanco. I also feel there should be instances where Ukraine can veto who can purchase these assets. These are long term Ukrainian assets and should benefit basically Ukraine and not some oligarch and definitely not Gazprom.
elmer  : Yushchenko talks about how corruption is killing Ukraine - but that`s about it, just hot air
I agree with Gene. Why does yet another mysterious Austrian company show up, just like with Gazprom? And how can this not be corruption? Yanukovych and Kluyev and Akhmetov are members of the same party, and all are members of the Ukrainian Parliament, including Yanukovycy`s son, for some reason. Akhmetov is on both sides of this transaction. It is rank, blatant corruption - the buddies in my political party and my fellow members of government approve a deal for me in which I am doing business with Ukraine. IT STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN! Vanco is trying to be a good corporate citizen, and is caught in the middle by Ukrainian corruption. And what does Yushchenko do? He talks a lot - and plays kissy-face with Akhmetov. DISGUSTING!
