UkrToday : Office of the President is preparing grounds for a political coup
Faced with reality of the Parliament supporting constitutional change that would see Ukraine become a parliamentary democracy and loss of presidential power and authority, Yushchenko is considering their next step in the President battle for power. Political instability is a major factor to Ukraine`s high inflation Our Ukraine having failed to negotiate a political alliance with Party of Regions and on the process undermined the formation of an "Orange Governing Coalition in 2006 eventually causing the collapse of the Revolution. Yushchenko`s response was to actively destabilise Ukraine`s democratically elected government and eventually illegally forced fresh elections in 2007 in the hope that Our Ukraine would once again be in the negotiating seat. Problem is that the Ukrainian electorate did not support the president and Our Ukraine. In spite a merger with the newly formed people``s self defence party, Our Ukraine`s support collapsed. Ukraine had a stable government, be it not to the liking of the president`s men. Now the President is faced with the real possibility of constitutional reform the Office of the president is plotting the demise of the newly elected government, once again undermining Ukraine`s political stability. Yulia is a wake up to the divisive policies and actions of the presidents party and she rightly has chosen to limit the abuse of presidential power and support Ukraine`s transition to a parliamentary democracy. Yushchenko`s men are now in a race to see who will cross the line first and who will be the victor. The fact is the early parliamentary elections can be called at any time come November 2008. And the president is very much working towards that end. Yulia has already indicated that she is prepared to support early presidential and parliamentary election following amendments to Ukraine`s constitution. such a proposal is realistic and worthy as it would pout an end to the divisive and destabilising tactics of the President and his supporters and restore balance and stability in Ukraine. The holding of earl;y presidential and parliamentary elections under a new constitution and an European parliamentary system is the best option available for Ukraine.
Nestor : Ukraine will never be a stable democracy under Yushchenko
Yushchenko has proven time and time again that he is not suited to the office of head of state. At less then 8% support Our Ukraine the polls are showing that Yushchenko is unelectable and that the presidential system is the main cause for instability.
