: other political parties have yet to be born
It`s now clear that some radical politicians, as well as current and previous leadership have escalated an antagonism between the Western and Eastern/Southern parts of Ukraine. Nobody on the East truly dreams about joining such a controversial country as Russia, but would rather prefer being a national of an independent Ukraine, especially with prospects of joining the EU in the future. However, the latter is not feasible in the nearest future and people would like to feel themselves as respected citizens now, with the language and culture they inherited from their parents and grandparents. Yet, after facing neglect of their rights and needs, and sometimes being treated as second class citizens based on their mother-tongue, some of these people start thinking that they might be treated better in Russia. Majority of inhabitants of the Eastern and Southern Ukraine well understand that the Party of Regions is financed by and therefore serves interests of a group of local tycoons with questionable past and approaches. Yet, there is no any other party that defends their rights and interests. All other "major" parties have clearly and repeatedly stated that they will not take into account interests of the Russian-speaking East and South, even though these regions accommodate nearly half of the population of the country. These parties declare many very necessary for Ukraine`s future endeavors in their programs and plans. Yet, it`s hard come to power and implement these plans while neglecting half of the Ukraine`s population. The only chance to succeed is to learn what people of Ukraine want and to reflect their interests in the party`s ventures. An alternative possibility is that the Party of Regions will be capable to accommodate interests and hopes of both Eastern and Western Ukraine. Indeed, this is what they declare right now, but it seems unlikely in reality, especially in eyes of the West. Their fate might be to serve as a temporary team, in order to make necessary changes in legislation, and to demonstrate to the successor s the need of integration rather than intolerance.
